HTC has officially announced its latest flagship smartphone New HTC One (M8) at a press event in London. In size, it measures 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 mm and weighs only 160. The design is similar to last year’s model and features the same aluminum unibody construction (made up of 90% metal as opposed to 70% in the original HTC One) and HTC BoomSound dual front facing stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers. The New HTC One features a 5-inch Super LCD3 display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (441ppi pixel density) . It is powered by Qualcomm’s 2.3GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB RAM. For multimedia, the New HTC One packs a 4 Mega Pixel Ultrapixel camera at back capable of shooting Full HD videos and 5 Mega Pixel front facing camera for video calls. Additionally, it comes with a second camera at back that is used as a depth sensor to perform various enhancements like selective focus and post shot refocusing. For connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, NFC technology, GPS/GPS-A, GLONASS and LTE mobile connections.

The New HTC One comes pre-installed with Google’s latest Android 4.4 OS and Sense 6.0 UI. With new Sense 6.0 UI, the new HTC One boasts capabilities that give the product a sixth sense. The Motion Launch detects smartphone’s position, thanks to built-in motion sensors and allows to interact with the phone without turning on the screen. A simple swipe activates the device, Auto Answer allows to answer a call by putting the phone to ear without touching the screen. For storage, it comes with 16GB or 32GB built-in memory, free 50GB Google Drive Storage for two years and micro-SD card slot. In addition to that it comes with a powerful 2600mAh battery that gives talk time of up to 20 hours.

The New HTC One will be available in three different colors – gunmetal gray, glacial silver and amber gold. It will be available to purchase in the US and UK starting today. The New HTC One also comes with an optional dual purpose smartphone case that offers instant phone access while. The Dot View case let’s you take calls, receive email notifications, schedule reminders, weather updates and more without even opening the case. It will be available in five different colors- Warm Black, Imperial Blue, Orange Popsicle, Atlantis and Baton Rouge. Samsung has officially announced its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It is the successor to current flagship smartphone, Galaxy S4. In size, it measures 142 X 72.5 x 8.1mm and weighs 146g. The Galaxy S5 features a 5.1inch full HD display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (415ppi pixel density). It is powered by 2.5GHz quad core processor and 2GB RAM. The Galaxy S5 is IP67 dust and water resistant. It comes with a Finger Scanner, providing a secure, biometric screen locking feature and a seamless and safe mobile payment experience to consumers. For multimedia, the Galaxy S5 packs a 16MP rear camera capable of shooting 4K videos and front facing HD camera for video calls. The Galaxy S5 offers the world’s fastest autofocus speed of up to 0.3 seconds and the advanced High Dynamic Range (HDR), reproduce natural light and color with striking intensity at any circumstances. For connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, GPS/GPS-A, USB 3.0, NFC technology and LTE mobile connections.

The Galaxy S5 comes pre-installed with Android 4.4.2 (with TouchWiz UI) and additional Samsung features like advanced S Health 3.0. In addition to that it comes with a powerful 2800mAh battery that gives talk time of up to 21 hours. The Galaxy S5 will go on sale around the world by the end of April 2014. It will be available to purchase in Europe for €600. There is nothing exciting to look for in the fifth generation Galaxy S smartphone. iPhone 6 is rumored to be the next flagship smartphone from Cupertino Giant Apple. The iPhone 5 has just been launched but design & development team is already working on its successor iPhone 6. There have been mixed reviews from tech industry in regards to latest flagship. The iPhone 5 is bigger, faster and lighter than predecessor iPhone 4S but lacks a wow factor that is always associated with Apple brand. Next generation iPhone 6 will feature an even bigger screen than iPhone 5, probably a 4.8-inch Super HD Retina display. It will be powered by quad core processor and 2GB RAM. iPhone 6 will be bigger and thinner than its predecessor. Update : According to an Apple patent filed in the US, next generation iPhones or iPads could use facial recognition technology to lock or activate certain features if a user is authorized or unauthorized. The patent is made up of three systems : a face detection decision application, a face recognition application and an input/output control application. These systems will work together to determine whether a user is authorized or not. The patent states “The invention, in various embodiments, addresses deficiencies in the prior art by providing systems, methods and devices that enable a personal computing device to detect the presence of at least one user, without the need for receiving active user input information, and control certain device operations depending on whether a user is present.” According to the patent, Apple’s facial recognition would stop the notification being displayed because the user is not authorized. This confirms that next generation iPhones and iPads will be more secure thanks to these new addiional features. Apple recently confirms the acquisition of PrimeSense, an Israeli motion sensing hardware and software firm responsible for the technology behind Microsoft’s Kinect.

Update : According to a new rumor from Foxconn insiders, Apple’s 2014 smartphone lineup will feature a 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch iPhones. The flagship smartphone (iPhone 6 or iPhone Air) is rumored to feature a 4.7-inch display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Nokia is developing a new charging technology that can charge future smartphones with Solar energy. The Finnish company is working on a solar energy suit which is made up of multiple solar panels. These solar panels are tough, more efficient than previous generations and can keep your smartphone charged all day long.

StoreDot Can Charge Your Smartphone in 30 Seconds

StoreDot, a Tel-Aviv based startup is developing a new technology that can charge your smartphone battery in 30 seconds. It is developed in the nanotechnology department at Tel Aviv University.

StoreDot has unveiled its first battery charging prototype at Microsoft’s Think Next Conference in Tel Aviv. In a demo, the company showed how the new technology can be used to fully charge a near empty Samsung Galaxy S4 within 30 seconds.

The prototype charger is similar to a laptop charger. StoreDot is expected to begin commercial production in the second half of 2016.
