Sony Xperia Ion
Xperia Ion is Sony’s first LTE (4G) smartphone. Xperia Ion is one of two new smartphones announced by Japanese giant at CES 2012 – the other being Sony Xperia S. Xperia Ion has 4.6-inch HD touchscreen display with the resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (~323 ppi pixel density). In size it measures 133 x 68 x 10.8 mm and weighs only 144g. Xperia Ion features 1.5GHz Snapdragon Dual core processor and 1GB RAM. It comes pre-loaded with Android 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) OS but Sony has promised an upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) by Q2 2012. For multimedia Xperia Ion has 12 Mega Pixel rear camera with features like auto focus, 1080p video capture, touch focus, geo tagging, face detection, image stabilization and 3D sweep panorama scene. In addition to this it has 1.3 Mega Pixel front facing camera to support video conferencing. For entertainment Xperia Ion comes pre loaded with Sony’s Entertainment Network with apps like Music Unlimited and Movies Unlimited. It is also a PlayStation certified handset so gamers can play all classic playstation games on the go. For connectivity Xperia Ion supports LTE (4G) network, 802.11 b/g/n, NFC technology, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0 and micro HDMI port, For Storage, it has 16 GB in-built memory and a micro SD card slot that can use cards upto 32GB. Other main features included are Accelerometer, Gyro sensor, proximity sensor, digital compass, GPS navigation, HTML5 and Flash support. Xperia Ion comes with standard 1900 mAh battery that gives you talk time of upto 10 hours and stand by time of 400 hours depending on network connections.
Overall, Xperia Ion is packed with great features and is a step forward for Sony in right direction. 4.6-inch HD screen is great for watching movies and playing games. There are no noticeable lag thanks to Dual core processor and 1GB RAM. Xperia Ion will be available in UK by Q2 of 2012. Update : Sony will be updating its Tablets & Smartphones to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) in this spring. All Xperia models and Sony tablets will get the update by the end of April 2012.
