BlackBerry OS 10.2 will be the next major update for current BlackBerry 10 devices.The BlackBerry 10.2 beta SDK will be rolled out in June 2013. It will come with following features :

USB Host Capability : It will enable users to connect USB drives to BlackBerry smartphones and transfer files.

WiFi Direct and Miracast : It will allow WiFi connectivity directly between devices instead of going through a router.

Flurry Analytics : BlackBerry will use Flurry analytics which will help developers understand their customers base and create better apps.

Smart Cards : BlackBerry 10 devices will replace physical cards and will let access to physical buildings/rooms via NFC.

Altimeter support : The altimeter support will allow developers to make apps that can use altitude information.

Geofencing : Geofencing on BlackBerry 10 smartphones will allow developers ability to create local apps.

Android Jelly Bean Support : BlackBerry 10.2 will support Jelly Bean (Android 4.2.2) apps to run in Android runtime.

Multiple alarms : BlackBerry 10.2 will support multiple alarms. Users will able to set multiple alarms on their BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

Standard Unicode Emojis : The next software update for BlackBerry 10 will support unicode Emojis.

Level 1 notifications : The BlackBerry 10.2 will see the return of Level 1 notifications.

Actionable notifications : BlackBerry 10.2 will come with actionable notifications. BlackBerry 10.2 users can respond straight from the notifications tab.

Wifi Direct : Wifi Direct enables simple peer-to-peer wireless connectivity between various devices like phones, tablets, printers and TVs.

Native Evernote app : The new BlackBerry 10.2 include a new native Evernote app.

USB Host compatibility : BlackBerry 10.2 OS will support USB Host compatibility. Users can connect USB sticks and transfer files.

Calendar Enhancements : BlackBerry Calendar now comes with an ‘I’m running late’ function so you can instantly let meeting participants know if you’ll be late. You can even specify a new time in your notification.

How to update to BlackBerry 10.2 OS

To update your BlackBerry smartphone to BlackBerry 10.2 software, look for the alerts in the notifications section of the BlackBerry Hub. You can also check for software updates through the System Settings menu and selecting software updates.

Update : According to a new leaked image (pictured below), BlackBerry’s new OS 10 update will come with direct access to Google Play Store. BlackBerry 10.2.1 users will able to download Android apps straight from Play Store, eliminating the need of sideloading.

Picture Password for Quick Unlocking – You can quickly unlock your phone using a combination of a picture and a number (0-9) of your choice, which you place at a particular point on the image. When you try to unlock the phone, the picture will appear along with a grid of random numbers. To unlock, simply drag the grid so the number you selected overlays the particular point on the image.

Customizable Quick Settings Menu – You can now customize what appears on the Settings menu, which includes features such as being able to quickly change the Brightness of the smartphone’s display, toggle various network connections, and access the built-in flashlight. The Settings menu also includes a toggle that lets you instantly switch between your Personal and Work perimeter.


Offline Browser Reading Mode – You can now save the current web page you’re on for later viewing, even if you are offline or without an Internet connection.
