Xperia S is Sony’s first smartphone in a post Ericsson era. Sony will now go it alone in smartphone world. Xperia S features a 4.3-inch touch screen with resolution of 1280×720 pixels (342 ppi pixel density). Screen details and colours are fantastic but are no comparision to Super AMOLED or Retina display. In size Xperia S is 128 x 64 x 10.6 mm and weighs 144g. The powerhouse of device is 1.5GHz Snapdragon dual core processor and 1GB RAM. Loading web pages and streaming videos were fast and impressive. Xperia S comes preloaded with Android 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) OS but will be upgraded to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) by Q2 2012. For multimedia Xperia S has 12 Mega Pixels camera with features like 1080p HD video capture, Auto focus, image stabilization, geo tagging, face detection and panorama scenes. In addition to this it comes with 1.3 Mega pixel front facing camera for video conferencing. Xperia S is also great for gamers as the device is PlayStation certified. It means you can play old PlayStation titles just like Xperia Play owners. For connectivity Xperia S supports 3G mobile connections, Wifi 802.11 b/g/n, NFC technology, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.1 and micro-HDMI port. Other main features include Sony’s Entertainment Network (with apps like Music unlimited and Movies unlimited), Accelerometer, Gyro sensor, Proximity sensor and 32GB internal storage. Xperia S comes with 1750 mAh battery that gives 8 hours of talk time and 420 hours stand by time.
Overall, Xperia S is an impressive handset and is right move forward for Sony in smartphone world. Lack of ICS (Android 4.0) is disappointing but Sony has promised to bring the update in Q2 2012. Xperia S will be available in UK by March 2012. No official release have been confirmed but Three Uk has confirmed that they will be getting Xperia S.
