BlackBerry Jakarta is rumored to be the codename for the next entry level smartphone from Canadian manufacturer BlackBerry featuring the latest BlackBerry 10 OS. It will be the first BlackBerry smartphone built by Foxconn and mainly aimed at customers in emerging markets like Indonesia and Africa. The BlackBerry Jakarta will feature an all touch screen display. For connectivity, it will support Bluetooth, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS / GPS-A and 3G mobile connections. The BlackBerry Jakarta will come pre-installed with the latest BlackBerry 10 OS. In addition to that it is rumored to feature a non removable battery. The BlackBerry Jakarta will go on sale in Indonesia starting April 2014 for under $200. Stay tuned for more updates.
Update : BlackBerry is rumored to unveil its first Foxconn-built smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2014 (MWC 2014) in few weeks time. ‘We are working with them to design a new device, and we will showcase multiple devices at the trade show in Barcelona in February’, Terry Gou, chairman of Foxconn said in a interview at a Hon Hai charity festival in Taipei.
Update : The first Foxconn-built Blackberry smartphone has just received its Bluetooth certification as shown in a leaked image (pictured below). It is also known by its model number STJ100-1 and will be the first BlackBerry smartphone to be launched under new CEO John Chen. The BlackBerry Jakarta is expected to launch at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona later in February.
Update : BlackBerry’s first low-end BlackBerry 10 smartphone is rumored to feature a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (235ppi pixel density). It will be powered by a dual core processor and 1.5GB RAM. Rest of the specifications are unknown. BlackBerry is expected to unveil “Jakarta” at Mobile World Congress later this month in Barcelona.
Update : According to new rumor from N4BB, BlackBerry’s first Foxconn-built smartphone will be known as BlackBerry Z3 and will feature 5-inch LCD display with resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. In will be powered by 1.2GHz dual core processor and 1.5GB RAM. For multimedia, BlackBerry Z3 will pack a 5MP rear camera and 1.1MP front facing camera for video calls. In addition to that it will come with a powerful 2650mAh battery. BlackBerry is expected to unveil BlackBerry Jakarta at MWC 2014 later this month.
Update : BlackBerry has officially announced BlackBerry at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 24th. It will be feature a 5-inch display and the latest version of BlackBerry 10.2.1 OS.
