LG G2 is the latest flagship smartphone from korean manufacturer LG featuring Google’s Android 4.2 OS. It was previously rumored few weeks ago. In size, it measures 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9mm and weighs only 143g. The LG G2 features a 5.2-inch scratch resistant (Corning Gorilla Glass 3) display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (423ppi pixel density). It is powered by 2.3GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB RAM. For multimedia, LG G2 packs a 13 Mega Pixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and 2.1 Mega Pixel front facing camera for video calls. For connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 4.0, Wifi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS-A, GLONASS, NFC technology and LTE mobile conncections. The LG G2 comes pre-installed with Google’s Android 4.2.2 OS. Like other flagship smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S4 and Moto X, LG G2 ships with new custom UI and gesture controls. ‘Plug & Pop’ automatically suggest apps and tasks when an USB cable or headphones are plugged into G2. ‘Slide Aside’ let’s access to the three most recently opened apps and quickly dismiss running apps with a single three-finger swipe. ‘KnockON’ wakes the G2 from sleep by a simple double tap on the display. Long press the volume-down button on the back to quick launch the camera and hold the volume-up key to open LG’s note taking app, QuickMemo. The Answer Me feature automatically lowers the ringtone volume of an incoming call if it senses the handset is being picked up, and it’ll also answer the call when you hold the phone against your face. The Guest Mode is another new feature in LG G2 that keeps things safe when you hand your smartphone to friends and family. For storage, it comes with option of 16GB or 32GB built-in storage. In addition to that it packs a powerful 3000mAh battery.
The LG G2 also comes with an optional QuickWindow phone cover. It features a slot in front, similar to Samsung’s S View Cover. Just slide the finger over the slot to see all the important information like time, weather, an alarm, music player, incoming calls and text messages. The case will be available in multi color options like black, white, pink, purple, blue, mint and yellow. The LG G2 will be available to purchase from all the leading mobile operators by the end of Q3 of 2013. The LG G2 will compete against other flagship smartphones like Apple iPhone 5S, HTC One, Nokia Lumia 1020, BlackBerry Z30, Sony Xperia Z1 and Samsung Galaxy S4 . Update : LG’s latest flagship smartphone LG G2 has won the ‘smartphone of the year’ award in the annual awards of technology magazine Stuff beating other flagship smartphones like Apple iPhone 5S, HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. Nokia’s latest flagship Lumia 1020 was crowned readers’ gadget of the year, beating off competition from Apple, Samsung and HTC.
Update : Despite being the best flagship smartphone of 2013, LG G2 sales figures are well below expectations. LG has sold 2.3 million G2 units in the four months since launch. According to the Korean publication Asia Today report, the Korean company has only sold 600,000 LG G2 units in its home country since its launch.
Update : LG has officially announced that it will make its innovative ‘Knock Code’ feature available on current flagship LG G2 and LG G Flex via a firmware update which will be rolled out in April. The LG’s Knock Code feature allows users to wake and unlock the phone simultaneously, providing more convenience and greater security over conventional password and pattern-based security options.
